CULTURAL PROGRAMS FELLOW

Posted on 04/15/08

Massachusetts Promise Fellows deliver the resources that young people need to be successful in life by mobilizing and organizing community activity, creating and leading powerful initiatives, and training and inspiring citizen volunteers.

The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship achieves this by placing Fellows with non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies that focus on fulfilling the needs of our youth by providing; a caring adult, a safe place, a healthy start, a marketable skill, and an opportunity to give back.

Service Description:

The Cultural Programs Fellow (CPF) placed at the United Teen Equality Center (UTEC) will focus on special events programs and trips planned in conjunction with the many cultural organizations that operate in Lowell. The CPF will reach out to these institutions and plan events that celebrate the diversity of artistic expression between cultures and help elevate the life experiences of our teens. These may be in forms of guest workshops, field trips, or UTEC participation in local and national celebration days such as Lowell Winterfest or National Coming Out Day. The Fellow will also function as a team leader, fostering the development of organizational skills as UTEC teens participate in the planning and implementation process of many varied events, including monthly themes like Black History Month or Back-to-School. Our programs and events share a consistent mission, to empower teens to seek positive changes in their lives and in their community. With the guidance of the CPF, our teens will gain broader appreciation both for creative arts and for the power creative expression can yield when focused to achieve social change.
