Posted on 04/15/08

Service Description:

The person placed at the United Teen Equality Center (UTEC) will serve as the PEACE (Promoting Empowering Alternatives through Creative Expression)/Cultural Arts Coordinator within the United Teen Equality Center. UTEC's mission is to be a "by teens, for teens" safe-haven for youth development and grassroots organizing, particularly serving those young people (ages 13-23) who are most often overlooked and labeled as “at-risk.” The main programming strikes a balance between two larger spheres: 1) a drop-in environment that provides a safe haven component; and 2) a more structured youth development and organizing component providing a holistic range of opportunities and supports. UTEC’s 3 primary core values are peace, positivity, and empowerment. The PEACE/Cultural Arts Fellow will focus on creating opportunities for young people to explore and enhance their own artistic expression through video production, music recording, visual arts, performance arts, and developing other new cultural arts-related programming based on the teens’ interests
