Sovanna was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and moved to the United States shortly afterwards.  He lived in Chicago for a few years and then moved to Lowell to reconnect with family members whowere seperated during the Khmer Rouge Regime. He has lived there ever since.  Fluent in both English and Khmer, he joined the UTEC family in July 2001 through CMAA (Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association), which had a program that was designed to help non-US citizens gain a job in the professional work field. Currently, Sovanna serves as the Building Arts & Design Coordinator working along with interior designers, artists, and architects for the new Green Building construction project ( www.utec-lowell.org/greenbuilding ).

Prior to working at UTEC, Sovanna was part of Big Brother Big Sister’s Adam Project which coordinated and performed in the first few Annual Dance for Peace Events. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1999 enrolled as a Cambodian Club, Science Club and CAPAY (Coalition for Asian Pacfic American Youth) member. He received his Associate of Arts in Graphic Design from Middlesex Community College and is currently serving as the Secretary on Executive Board of Directors for the Angkor Dance Troupe ( www.angkordance.org).
