Melany graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in 2007 with a degree in Business and Religion. After graduating, she became an AmeriCorps Volunteer with the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). In NCCC, she traveled and worked in various regions across the country, including California, Santa Fe, New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, Montana and other places in between. During this time she and a team of 12 other volunteers built houses, mentored in schools, and served the elderly. Following her experience with NCCC, Melany returned to New England for another year in AmeriCorps. This time she served on Cape Cod in an environmental program, educating people on disaster preparedness.
Shortly after her second year of service, Melany moved to the Boston area and worked for two years as a Program Associate for the Boys and Girls Club of Middlesex County. In 2011, she stepped into the role of UTEC’s AmeriCorps Coordinator, overseeing the 14 person Youth Empowerment Corps whose Members serve in all UTEC programs, from Education to Workforce Development. Melany recruits, trains, supports, plans retreats, and otherwise makes AmeriCorps service valuable and memorable for Members at UTEC. In her spare time, Melany enjoys food, reading, and laughing a lot!
