Emilie Steinaggel
Alternative Diploma Program Coordinator
Emilie is a recent graduate of Smith College, where she studied sociology, Spanish, education, and found a love for dance, which she pursued in modern, ballet, jazz, hip hop, and west African dance classes. She was a member of the residence life team, the handbell choir, the glee club, and a gumboot dancing group. Emilie’s love working with children was fostered by her work study job in a preschool classroom and her extensive work with children and teenagers in a variety of settings from overnight camp in New Hampshire to day camps in New Haven and Providence to English classes in the Dominican Republic.

Emilie grew up in small town Connecticut where she was involved in a variety of musical groups and drama ensembles, including the St. Luke Lutheran Church Concert Handbell Choir. She has played handbells in three different choirs for the past nine years, traveled to England to perform for the national convention of the Anglican Church, played solo pieces, and is looking to continue to pursue this passion in her life in Lowell.

Emilie now serves as the Cultural Arts Coordinator with UTEC through the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship, a division of AmeriCorps. She works to enhance UTEC’s role as a multicultural safe space in the city of Lowell by building partnerships within the community; planning and implementing cultural arts classes, workshops, and special events representing a variety of backgrounds and cultures; serving as an adult ally and role model for Lowell’s youth; and creating a physical environment which is comfortable for and accessible to all the teens UTEC serves. Emilie is incredibly excited to be in Lowell serving with UTEC and doing amazing and important work.
